Bikaner is a historic desert city in northern Rajasthan known for its magnificent red-sandstone architecture, royal heritage and long association with camel culture. Founded by Rao Bika in 1488, the city preserves the character of the former princely state of Bikaner through its forts, palaces, havelis and traditional markets.

The centrepiece is Junagarh Fort, a richly decorated royal complex containing palaces, courtyards, balconies and ornate interiors. Around the old city, the beautifully carved Rampuria Havelis reveal the wealth and craftsmanship of Bikaner's historic merchant families.

Bikaner also offers experiences that are distinctly different from other Rajasthan destinations, including the National Research Centre on Camel, the historic Karni Mata Temple at Deshnok and the city's traditional food and handicraft culture.
